Once you have learned the basic premise of how to play craps and how the game works, the next logical step is to gain a thorough understanding of the different wagers available in the game and what each bet means in relation to the outcome of the roll of the dice. This page provides an overview of all the different craps bets that can be made at the table while playing including the rules and associated payouts for each wager made.
The pass line bet is the most common wager that is made in craps and with this bet you are betting that the come out roll will be either a 7 or 11 before the point is established. If the come out roll is a 7 or 11, the player will win even money and if the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12 the player will lose their bet. If a point is established on the come out roll, the pass line bet will remain until the point is rolled (win for the pass line) or a 7 is rolled before the point (loss for pass line).
This is the opposite of the pass line bet, you are betting on the come out roll to be a 2, 3 or 12 for which you will win even money. If the roll is a 7 or 11 you will lose this bet. If the point is established on the come out roll, you will be hoping for a 7 to be rolled before the point in which case you would win even money. Players who bet on the do not pass line are known as wrong bettors since usually they are playing against everyone else at the tables. Check out our online craps strategy article for more tips.
For both the pass line and do not pass line there is an odds bet which allows you to put between 2 and five times you original bet behind as an increased wager. This may be done once the point is established and is the only bet in craps with no house edge. This is a great bet to make if the point is one that is likely to be hit such as a 6 or 8 since you can significantly increase your wager after the fact of seeing the point be established. If you are betting on the pass line this wager is known as playing the odds and if you are betting the don’t pass line this bet is called laying the odds. The payouts range for this bet depending on the point established since each point has different odds of being hit by the player.Check out our craps odds article for more information on the odds of certain types of bets or our craps probability for betting.
The field bet may be placed at any time and with this bet you are only betting on the next roll of the dice. Players win this bet if a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 is rolled, each paying even money accept 2 and 12 which pay 2-1 for wagers.
The come bet is somewhat similar to a pass line bet and is placed after the point has been established by the player. With this bet you will win if a 7 or 11 is rolled on the next roll and will lose if a 2, 3 or 12 comes up. If the next roll is none of these numbers nor the established point, this outcome will become your new point and you will win if it is rolled again before a 7.
The opposite of the come bet, wins when the next rolls is a 2, 3 or 12 and loses with a 7 or 11. If another number comes up player will take this as their point and will win this wager when a 7 is rolled before the new established point.
The place bets are wagers on the points numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10) which say that the shooter will roll any of these numbers before they roll a 7. Usually players make this wager to cover their bets once the point is established, and each point pays out differently depending on which you select. Place bets on 6 and 8 pay 6-5, bets on 5 and 9 pay 7-5 and bets on 4 and 10 pay 9-5.
The opposite of a place bet, betting on a 7 to be rolled before the number you bet on. These pay less than place bets since they are more likely to occur with 6 and 8 paying out 4-5, bets on 5 and 9 paying 5-8 and bets on 4 and 10 paying out 5:11.
Buy bets are very similar to place bets however offer much better odds and payouts if won. All these bets are however subject to a house commission of 5% since they are providing increased payouts. For buy bets on 6 and 8 the player will be paid out 23-21, for 5 and 9 29-21 and for 4 and 10 39-21.
This bet is exactly the same as taking a place bet on 6 and 8 however only offers an even money 1-1 payout and is essentially a suckers bet which should not be wagered on ever during a game of casino craps.
These bets can be found in the center of the craps table and most are only based on the next roll of the dice. These are the hardest bets to win in craps however offer some great payouts if you are lucky enough to hit them. The bets are any 7 (pays 5:1), any craps (pays 7:1), hard 4 or 10 (pays 4:1), hard 6 or 8 (pays 10:1), hard 2 or 12 (pays 30:1) and hard 3 or 11 (pays 11:1). Hard way rolls are rolls where the two dice are the same, for example a hard 8 would mean the shooter rolls two 4’s on the dice and so on.
