The Object of Playing Blackjack

The object of Blackjack is to get your cards to total as close to 21 as possible without busting (going over) to beat the dealer's hand. If you get 21, it is not automatically a Blackjack. Back when Blackjack began you had to have the Jack and Ace of Spades to win the Blackjack payout. Now days all you have to do is get 21 by only using two cards. This means an ace with any 10 or face card. Even red cards count as a Blackjack in this day and age.

7 Steps to Playing Blackjack Online

1. Place your wager on the table in front of you
2. Dealer deals all players 2 cards, everyone except the dealer has 2 face up cards, one of the dealer's cards is hidden.
3. If the dealer shows an Ace for their face up card they will allow each player the option of placing an insurance bet.
4. Action starts with the player to the left of the dealer and will be given the option to - hit, stand or double down.
5. Dealer will continue around the table until all players have chosen to stand or have busted.
6. If dealer has less than 17 or a soft 17 they must hit, if they have a hard 17 or higher they must stand.
7. Dealer will pay all players 1:1 for beating the dealer, 3:2 for any player that gets a Blackjack, the dealer will take all bets for hands which lost or pushed.

How to Bet in Blackjack

To play Blackjack, you must first place a minimum bet on the table in front of you. In some casinos and in other versions, you may come across some other bets you can make such as an insurance bet. If the dealer's 1 face up card is an Ace, they will then offer each player at the table the option to place an insurance bet. An insurance bet covers you if the dealer has a Blackjack, but if he doesn't, you forfeit your insurance bet. If the dealer does have a Blackjack, you will lose your original bet, but win on your insurance bet. You may also get the option to double down. In most games and casinos this is only allowed before you have gotten any extra cards. You cannot ask the dealer to hit you and then double down, however this is allowed in Spanish 21.

Dealer - Person who works for casino and deals out the cards. This is the only person whose hand you must beat.
Hit - Asking the dealer to give you another card. You will do this when your original 2 cards are low.
Stand - Telling the dealer you are happy with your cards and do not want any more.
Insurance - A bet that can be placed when the dealer's face up card is an Ace.
Double Down - After you have been dealt your 2 cards, you may be offered the option of doubling your bet. However you will only get one more card.
Bust - When your cards go over 21 and you lose your wager.
Blackjack - Any 10 or face card with an Ace 2 card combination.
Soft 17 - When the dealer's hand is 17 using the Ace as an 11.
Hard 17 - When the dealer's hand is 17 without the use of an Ace or using an Ace as a 1
Push - When your hand is the same value as the dealer's hand, in this case the dealer wins.
