The most important thing you need to know about playing Video Poker is which hand beats which. Since Video Poker is Poker, just on a machine, they use the same hand rankings as you would in any high Poker game. You will be trying to get pairs, 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and of course royal flushes. Video Poker Tip #2 - Control Your Bankroll

Video Poker Tip #3 - Bet the Maximum Only if Your Bankroll allows

The more credits you bet each hand when playing Video Poker, the higher the payout will be if you win. Many of the highest payouts are only available when betting max, like the many jackpot Video Poker machines that have jackpots for special hands like 5 of a kind! However, if you are only playing with five dollars, betting max may mean you may only get 4 hands dealt to you when you can bet 5 credits per hand. However if you only bet 1 or 2 credits per hand, you will get a lot more chances to win. It is up to you and your bankroll to decide if it makes more sense to bet max and hope to win big out of a couple hands, or bet less and win smaller payouts but hand a lot more chances to win.

Video Poker Tip #4 - Never Draw to an Inside Straight

An inside straight is a straight draw where you have 4 cards going towards the straight, but you are missing one of the middle straight cards. When you draw to an inside straight there are only 4 cards in the deck that will complete your winning hand. Now an outside straight is a straight draw where you have 4 consecutive cards and one card on either side of them will complete a straight. Where you only have 4 outs in the deck for an inside straight, outside straights have 4 outs because there are 2 different cards that will complete their winning hand and there are 4 of each of those cards in the deck which gives players drawing towards outside straights 8 outs to draw for.
